can you get a hysterectomy without having any real medical reasons for it?

by admin on September 1, 2011

I wanted to know if you could get a hysterectomy but not have any medical reasons for it. Im 21 with no kids and I want one and im willing to pay cash but im wondering if i’ll get denied because I have no real medical reason for it and because of my age and the fact that i havent had kids yet. I dont plan to ever have kids and if i do i’ll adopt or get a surrogate mother

I think what you want would be a tubal ligation, getting your tubes tied,,,if you get a hysterectomy you will need to be on hormones the rest of your life so you wont grow facial hair and other symptoms….if you dont want children then get an iud for now, or norplant in your arm,,these work for years…i had a tubal after having 3 kids and sometimes i still think i made a mistake..you dont want to look back and regret a big desicion like this…

I really dont think so. It was on the news about a year or so ago, about doctors giving unnecessary hysterectomies. You are really young as well with no children, they will also take that into consideration. A hysterectomy is a major surgery as well. I would definately say no. There is no medical need.

At your age, I’m going to say no. If you did find a doctor who would do it, no questions asked, then there’s something wrong with him.

I know a lady who got a hysterectomy about 2 years ago, with no real medical reasons, but she was about 51, and I don’t know about any other likes or dislikes she has with it, but it was a major surgury that took weeks to heal from, and she has to take pills for the rest of her life now.

Very, very few docs will do this. A friend of mine asked around – and she was 35.

That’s not to say that you might not find one, but it’s gonna take some searching. I think they all tend to feel that since it’s irreversible surgery, it’s a mistake to do unless there’s medical necessity.

And honestly, I can’t help but feel that’s probably true. At 21, I’d have said I’d *never* have a child. Ten years later, I had a very different perspective.

What’s wrong with just a tubal ligation? It’s cheaper, safer, less discomfort; and nobody will ask questions if you want one.

Probibly not. I was 23 when I had my tubes tied and it was the biggest mistake of my life. Things happen and things change. If you were in your 30′s they might but probibly not.

why would you want one? it would throw your hormones off wack and you would have to take pills forever. get your tubes tied if you dont want kids. dont do something that extreme and stupid. my mom had one because she needed it for health reasons and never has been the same since. shes hormonal and got depressed and felt less like a woman. be thankfull you can keep what you have!!!!

Why do you want a hysterectomy? Do you mean that you want to be sterilized? Because there are much easier and safer ways to be sterilized, like tubal ligation or essure. Hysterectomy is a major surgery that requires multiple days in the hospital, extended bedrest, a slow recovery and a lot of pain. It isn’t something you want to go through if you don’t need to. Also, hysterectomy decreases sexual drive and sensation. And there’s no pay you could afford to pay cash for a lengthy hospital stay and surgical operation.
If you want to be sterilized, more power to you – I’m 22 and also don’t want kids – but please look into your options more in depth before making a medical decision.
Good luck. :)

No proper doctor will perform a hysterectomy on a perfectly healthy woman, irregardless if you pay for it or not. You also don’t want one…….surgically imposed menopause is horrific….trust me, I know, I went through 2 years of menopause hell after my hysterectomy. I would suggest you have your tubes tied if you wish to go through a sterilization procedure. Make sure that the doctor cuts out a section of the fallopian tube and ties and cauterizes both ends to prevent unwanted pregnancy. I had a friend who’s doctor just used clips and she ended up pregnant.

hey, I’m 24 and want one after my baby is born.

My mum passed away from breast cancer when she was 32 and my auntie passed away from ovarian cancer when she was 33. I want a hysterectomy because it will decrease my chances of getting breast and ovarian cancer. I have one Doctor who supports me 100% but he can’t do the op. then there are people who think I’m stupid! How can i be stupid for wanting to watch my kids grow up.

I have had so many doctors say no But am still looking. I know all the factors about early menopause and so on.

If you really want it go for it but make sure you know all the pros and cons. Good luck finding a doctor

I said I’d never want to actually labor and have children………well………I have three! Any normal 21 yr old says they don’t want to actually have the children……….

Don’t do it! Plus most docs won’t do it.

How can u have a surrogate mother? Don’t they carry your egg? You won’t have ovaries?????
